A hint of heat from red pepper flakes is combined with the rich flavors of bacon, bourbon, and maple syrup to create the delightful concoction known as Boozy Bacon Jam. It's ideal for giving your favorite dishes a twist of sweetness and savory.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb 450g bacon, chopped
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup 120ml strong brewed coffee
- 1/2 cup 120ml bourbon whiskey
- 1/4 cup 60ml maple syrup
- 1/4 cup 60ml brown sugar
- 1/4 cup 60ml apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes adjust to taste
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Crisp up the chopped bacon by cooking it over medium-high heat in a large skillet
Take out the extra fat, leaving the skillet with about 2 tablespoons
To the skillet, add the minced garlic and the finely chopped onion
Saute them for approximately five minutes, or until the onion turns transparent and tender
After adding the bourbon whiskey and strong brewed coffee, stir to deglaze the pan and remove any browned bits from the bottom
Incorporate the apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, and maple syrup
Toss to thoroughly mix in all the ingredients
After lowering the heat to low, simmer the mixture for thirty to forty minutes, or until it thickens and takes on the consistency of jam
Stir from time to time
To taste, add salt and black pepper for seasoning
To get the right amount of heat, adjust the red pepper flakes
Take it off the heat and allow it to cool a little
Once the jam is in a food processor, pulse it a few times to get the texture you wantchunky or smooth
Before putting the Boozy Bacon Jam in the refrigerator in an airtight container, let it cool completely
Serve the jam as a condiment for your favorite recipes, or on burgers, sandwiches, cheese, and crackers
